Los XII Juegos Suramericanos Asunción 2022 levantarán el telón en octubre del 2022
La Organización Deportiva Suramericana (ODESUR) informa que aceptó una solicitud del Gobierno de la República del Paraguay para posponer el inicio de los XII Juegos Suramericanos Asunción 2022 al 1 de octubre de ese año ante la emergencia sanitaria que vive la región por la pandemia del COVID-19.
Con este cambio, la mayor celebración multideportiva suramericana se extenderá hasta el 15 de octubre, desde su fecha inicial prevista entre el 26 abril el 9 de mayo del 2022.
“La crisis sanitaria mundial representa un enorme desafío para todos los países y la evolución de la pandemia del COVID-19 se ha tornado impredecible. Ante ese panorama, la ODESUR ratifica que su prioridad es velar por el bienestar de los atletas, de los involucrados en la organización de los Juegos y de la comunidad suramericana”, dijo el presidente de la ODESUR, Camilo Pérez López Moreira.
“En las actuales circunstancias y basados en la información provista por las autoridades sanitarias hemos decidido aceptar el requerimiento de la Secretaría Nacional de Deportes del Paraguay para posponer el inicio de los Juegos Suramericanos”, agregó el presidente de la ODESUR.
Los Juegos Suramericanos son la mayor celebración multideportiva en la región y tienen como uno de sus objetivos difundir los valores Olímpicos entre los jóvenes para promover la construcción de un mundo mejor a través del deporte.
Su última edición, en el año 2018 en la ciudad boliviana de Cochabamba, fue la mayor de su historia con la participación de más de 4.000 atletas. El evento dejó una huella imborrable en el país altiplánico con un legado tangible que beneficiará a sus futuras generaciones de deportistas.

The 2022 South American Games in Asunción will raise the curtain in October 2022
The South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) reports that it accepted a request from the Government of the Republic of Paraguay to postpone the start of the XII South American Games Asunción 2022 to October 1 of that year due to the health emergency that the region is experiencing due to the COVID pandemic -19. With this change, the largest South American multisport celebration will run until October 15, from its initial date scheduled between April 26 and May 9, 2022.
“The global health crisis represents a huge challenge for all countries and the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic has become unpredictable. Against this background, ODESUR confirms that its priority is to ensure the well-being of the athletes, of those involved in the organization of the Games and of the South American community, ”said ODESUR President Camilo Pérez López Moreira.
"In the current circumstances and based on the information provided by the health authorities, we have decided to accept the request of the Paraguayan National Sports Secretariat to postpone the start of the South American Games," added the ODESUR president.
The South American Games are the largest multi-sport celebration in the region and one of their objectives is to spread the Olympic values among young people to promote the construction of a better world through sport.
Its last edition, in 2018 in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba, was the largest in its history with the participation of more than 4,000 athletes. The event left an indelible mark on the highland country with a tangible legacy that will benefit future generations of athletes.
